On July 4, 2005, Newton Trails held the ribbon-cutting ceremony for its first trail segment in Oxford.  The model trail segment extends 1/3 mile along wooded, undeveloped road rights of way between Clark and Soule Streets and behind Old Church on Wesley Street.  This very picturesque segment features Turkey Creek, benches, a kiosk with information about native plants and animals, both forest and meadow habitats, and a large deck under the tree canopy behind Old Church that is perfect for picnics, outdoor education, or worship.

On October 14, 2006, Newton Trails held the ribbon-cutting ceremony for its second project, a 1480-foot loop trail along the Yellow River in Porterdale.  This loop will eventually link to a county-built trail that will extend from Turner Lake Park and connect with Porterdale Elementary and Newton County High School.

With partnership between the City of Porterdale and other contributors, the new trail loop hopefully will be expanded over the next several years into a more formal family park for active and passive recreation.

Newton Trails completed the second segment of trail in Oxford in July 2007.  The new section extends ½ from Clark Street to Soule Street along Turkey Creek through the woods west of Oxford College.
