In April, SRG Global™ donated water for Every Body Walk Newton! and employees participated in the community walk series with their families. Since then, SRG Global has made a financial contribution to Newton Trails to support the development of the rail trail, and the company's community relations and environmental technician, Michael Cook, has volunteered as a walk leader and joined the Newton Trails board of directors.
SRG Global has been a part of Newton County for over forty years, manufacturing automotive trim parts - the jewelry and accessories for cars and the finishes that enhance the design of vehicles. We sat down with Michael Cook to find out why SRG Global is enthusiastic about trails in Newton County.
How did SRG Global learn about Newton Trails?
SRG Global was looking for an exercise activity that our employees could participate in after work. While reading the Covington News, I saw an advertisement for the Eastside Trail walking event.
What compelled SRG Global to become involved? How does Newton Trails fit into the SRG Global vision, both internally and externally?
As a local business with over 375 employees, it is important to us to be good stewards in our community, and Newton Trails is a great fit for SRG Global. Newton Trails encourages people to get out and exercise with their weekly walking series. We put up the flyers about upcoming walks in our plant so our employees can participate as part of our HealthGuard program.
A key principle for SRG Global is creating value in the communities we serve, which is another reason we have supported Newton Trails. They are bringing local communities together with the fifteen-mile rail trail that was announced this year.
What does SRG Global hope to see from Newton Trails in the future?
SRG Global was the first corporate sponsor for Newton Trails. It was an easy decision to sponsor Newton Trails, as we all benefit from the facilities, families and businesses that will be attracted to the community. SRG Global employees now have knowledge of locations of the trails and can take advantage of using the beautiful trails.
How has your involvement with Newton Trails benefited SRG Global?
Out on the trails with SRG Global employees I have noticed how the trails bring different people together. It brings you in contact with people that in everyday life you might not ever have had the chance to talk to otherwise. I think that other organizations should become involved with Newton Trails. The sooner we can finish the fifteen-mile rail trail, the sooner all of Newton County can get out, take a walk, and get to know their community better. A beautiful day on a nice walk just might change the world.
