Transportation Plan Update Needs Stakeholder Input
June 11, 2017
The 2017 Newton County Transportation Plan (CTP) Update is underway, and Newton County residents are invited to participate in a survey as part of the research phase of the project. The purpose of a CTP is to identify long-range transportation strategies, projects, and programs that address anticipated multimodal needs and issues throughout the county. Therefore, stakeholder input is important.
Newton County last completed a CTP in 2008, providing a plan through the year 2030. This 10-year update will extend the planning of projects to 2040 and will assess changes in transportation conditions, needs, policies, and
priorities since the previous plan.
By participating in the survey, trail supporters can help the county fulfill its goal of developing "a comprehensive transportation system by improving safety, mobility, and connectivity to ensure the efficient movement of people and goods." Incorporating alternative transportation options, including multi-use, greenway trails, is an essential part of meeting Newton County's future transportation needs.
