The Newton Fund of The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, Inc. has awarded a $5000 grant to Newton Trails to support general operations. We're particularly pleased and proud to receive this grant, as the application process is quite rigorous and selective. Newton Trails received a similar grant from the Newton Fund in 2011.
In 2013, The Community Foundation awarded Newton Trails a $20,000 grant to assist the City of Porterdale with renovations and retrofitting of a donated railroad boxcar, which Newton Trails paid to have moved to the site. The boxcar will serve as a handcap-accessible restroom and changing facility at the Yellow Riverpark trailhead by the historic train depot, which houses Porterdale Yak Club and the Porterdale lending library. The funds can also be used to acquire benches, trash cans, and bicycle racks for the trailhead.
The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta connects donors, nonprofits and community leaders to strengthen the Atlanta region through philanthropy. The Community Foundation does this by providing quality services to donors and innovative leadership on community issues.
