Newton Trails is proud to announce Sara Vinson as new board chair and the addition of Tara Geoffroy and Hugh Burnett to the board of directors.
At its August meeting, the board unanimously elected Sara to serve as the new chair. Sara brings deep connections to our mission, integrity, generosity, and a wealth of experience to her leadership that will no doubt help move Newton Trails onward and upward during her tenure. A member of the board since 2012, Sara previously served as secretary and chair of the Fundraising Committee where, among others, she applied successfully for trail grants, began the Newton Trails membership program, and produced our first trails brochure as well as the Newton Trails bumper sticker. Sara is taking up the mantle of leadership from Florian Pohl, who is leaving the board after four years of service as he is heading to Indonesia on sabbatical from his teaching position at Oxford College.
Florian Pohl was board chair for just under a year and a half but has had a significant impact on Newton Trails. Behind the scenes, Florian instituted policies and procedures that have helped Newton Trails operate more efficiently. His leadership of trail workdays, community walks and bike rides as well as participation in parades, fundraising events, and public information opportunities has increased Newton Trails’ list of activities significantly. Additionally, under Florian’s leadership, Newton Trails and the City of Oxford have established a Memorandum of Understanding to guide Oxford Trail maintenance and usage. We look forward to keeping him involved as a member of our Communications Committee via the Internet, and we look forward to his return to Newton County next year.
We also welcome new board members Tara Geoffroy and Hugh Burnett. Tara, a marketing professional, and Hugh, a sales professional, have already contributed tremendously to our work. You may have already noticed their presence whether it be on Facebook, Twitter or at one of our many events such as the Fuzz Run or the Covington Century. We are honored to have these amazing leaders to help us with our work toward building a system of greenway trails here in Newton.
