Rail Corridor: NITU Renewed, Negotiations Continue

October 6, 2015

In August, Newton Trails renewed the Notice of Interim Trail Use (NITU) for the Covington-to-Newborn rail corridor with the National Surface Transportation Board.  This was the fourth renewal since the original notice was filed in August 2013.  While negotiations with Norfolk Southern Railroad are taking longer than anticipated, we're confident that we'll be able to railbank the corridor and develop the trail.

Railbanking will allow the approximately 15-mile-long corridor to be used as a trail while reserving the right of Norfolk Southern to reactivate the line, if future need arises.

We look forward to celebrating with Newton Trails members when the acquisition is complete.  Join or renew your membership in order to receive this exciting news first.
