This month, we're shining the spotlight on one of our fantastic volunteers, Victoria Leggett. She recently moved to Newton County and reached out to our organization to get involved. We sat down with Victoria to learn more about her and her work for Newton Trails:
What volunteer work do you perform for Newton Trails?
I'm brand new, but I now write the Trail Spotlight section for the quarterly newsletter, as well as create children's events to help families become involved with Newton Trails.
What prompted you to become involved with the organization?
I just moved to Covington at the end of September, and I was looking for a way to get involved with the community. I love the outdoors, and Newton Trails seemed like a perfect fit.
What is your favorite trail in Newton County?
I've only been to Lake Varner, Eastside Trail, and Turner Lake, but of those three I have to say Turner Lake. I really love the unpaved trails and the boardwalk.
What would you personally like to see Newton Trails achieve and/or what is your goal with volunteering?
I would really like to help get children and families actively learning about nature and enjoying time spent outside in order to cultivate an appreciation for the outdoors in a fun and accessible way. I'd also like to reach out to the senior community and try to get them involved as well. The Newton County trails are beautiful and impeccably maintained, and should be enjoyed by all ages!
Any message for those that are thinking of volunteering?
Do it! Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, become more involved with your community, and maybe even learn something new.
If you're interested in volunteering, we'd love to hear from you!
