Rail Trail Adopt-A-Spot Offers Trail Care Opportunities
February 1, 2017
In addition to holding regular trail work sessions, trail managers across the country have found that adopt-a-spot programs are effective in maintaining trail conditions. Now that sections of the rail trail are officially open to the public, Newton Trails is launching a rail trail adopt-a-spot program.
Participants in the program are asked to perform occasional trail maintenance, including removal of limbs and litter, as well as inspections of signage and general trail conditions.
Businesses, community groups, families, and hardworking individuals are invited to adopt a spot of trail that appeals to them. Most "spots" will run from one road crossing to another. However, Newton Trails is open to proposals for varying sections of the trail.
Following a six-month trial period, Newton Trails will erect a sign recognizing the adopter. A Newton Trails membership is required for participation in the program.
