Are you interested in helping maintain Newton County's recreational trails? If so, you are invited to let Greg Richardson, chair of the Newton Trails board of directors, know of your interest in joining other volunteers for just that purpose.
Every Thursday morning (currently 9 a.m.) for the past couple of months, Newton Trails has held an informal, one-hour work session. Currently there are 7 of us that participate when individually able to attend. The purpose of this invitation is to expand the pool of volunteers!
To date, the work sessions have focused on brush and kudzu control along the Oxford and Eastside trails. However, one session was devoted to picking up old tires and litter along the Cricket Frog Trail and another to building barriers aimed at discouraging walkers from shortcutting the hairpin curves on the Eastside Trail behind Chimney Park.
If you are interested in volunteering on Thursdays, please ask Greg Richardson at firstname.lastname@example.org to include your email address on a weekly message defining the assembly point, work to be done, and tools to bring along.
Receiving the weekly email does not commit you to participation. The expectation is that volunteers will attend when they are able.
