TRAIL USE POLICY
Newton Trails, Inc

Policy on placing anything on or removing anything from

the Cricket Frog Trail right-of-way.

The Cricket Frog Trail right-of-way is privately owned by the Norfolk Southern Corporation (NSC). Newton Trails, Inc., a non-governmental, not-for-profit organization leases and manages the right-of-way. The leased right-of-way extends along the old Central of Georgia Railway line from Washington Street on the west side of Covington to 550’ east of Zeigler Road in the eastern part of Newton County. The Cricket Frog Trail is open and maintained for public use within the parameters set forth in Newton Trails’ Trail Rules and other policies (see www.newtontrails.org).

The right-of-way is of variable width. In a few places it is only a few feet wider than a standard railroad car; in others it is 100 feet wide, that is 50 feet on each side of the centerline of the Cricket Frog Trail.

Newton County’s tax maps DO NOT reflect the true width of the right-of-way. NSC has provided Newton Trails, Inc., with maps that show the correct width. To find out the width of the right-of-way in any specific location, please contact Newton Trails

Special Event Policy and Application

This policy and application form only applies if you or your organization are planning a special event (as defined below) that will make use of a portion of the Cricket Frog Trail (hereafter CFT) in unincorporated Newton County (outside of all city limits). If an event will be held on any trail section within Covington, Mansfield, Newborn, Porterdale, or Oxford, please contact that city.

For purposes of this policy, a “Special Event” requiring a permit application is defined as follows. The cities may have other definitions.
ï‚· Any organized activity that is open to the public and has as its purpose entertainment,
recreation, profit, and/or education, including, but not limited to races, tours, festivals,
competitions, concerts, weddings, and picnics; or,
ï‚· Any meeting, demonstration, rally or gathering of more than 50 people for a common purpose as a result of prior planning and that will occupy some portion of the trail.

There is a non-refundable permit fee of $200 payable to Newton Trails, Inc, 6215 Hwy 278 NW, Box 145, Covington GA 30014 (hereinafter referred to as Newton Trails). Newton Trails may, at the sole discretion of its Board of Directors, waive some or all of the fee for charitable, not-for-profit organizations or Newton Trails’ sponsors.

Newton Trails expects the CFT right-of-way to be left in the same condition after the special event as before the special event. Newton Trails will invoice you or your organization for damages and/or clean-up, repair, or other costs incurred as a direct result of the special event.

If you are planning a special event, please complete the following application and submit it electronically to info@newtontrails.org. Newton Trails will review your application and respond with approval pending you meeting our insurance requirements, disapproval, or a request for additional information.
